A message from Miss Jillian
In an ever-changing world, creativity remains the driving force that inspires everything we can imagine. All kids need creativity in their lives, starting at an early age. Art and creative experiences help children gain confidence and build their self-concept, allow them to make mistakes, learn about their world by becoming more observant, and to think and problem-solve.
Art is linked to other areas of learning. Core skills in art and math are related in acquiring spatial reasoning and pattern recognition. When kids use art to help them understand and describe their world, they gain science skills. Most importantly, art allows kids to have the freedom to explore and express their ideas.
My happiest memories as a child involve drawing, painting, cutting, pasting, building, sewing, sculpting - essentially making anything! I feel most like myself when I had the freedom to explore creatively. My years and experience as an artist and early childhood educator have led me to be a true believer that art and creativity impacts every aspect of our lives, and is necessary for all areas of learning.
